The Family History group has now been running for just over a year. We have a core of friendly and interested members who meet and share experience, discuss issues, and progress projects on how we can both research our own family history We also look at how we can preserve and pass on our results. Some of the topics which we explore at our meetings include:
- public and other research sources
- building family trees
- how do we store information (digitally or physically)
- what do we do with family photographs and other ‘stuff’
- preserving family stories and heritage
- who might be interested in your project.
The aim is very much to support each other and to share experience. Some members of the group are highly experienced researchers and others are beginners looking to learn more. If you want some help or if you want to help others, everyone is welcome.
These are the next two meetings for the Family History Group:
On June 12 we are looking at researching Irish ancestry with particular reference to the release of the 1926 census data.
On July we have a visit to Ely Museum with a session where we can talk to the curators about how to preserve and record family archives. We will share cars to travel to Ely where the visit will start at 10.30. There will be a charge of £10 for the visit to cover the session charges and the normal admission to the Museum. Numbers are limited and if you are interested in joining the visit, can you contact Bridget Kerle as soon as possible. After the visit to the Museum, we plan to have an informal lunch for the group as a social occasion.
There is no meeting of the group in August.
